SIDS guidelines recommend always putting your baby to sleep on their back and allow them to find their own sleeping position.
So when your little one can roll, and if they choose to sleep on their tummy the cot surface needs to be breathable.
Can you breath through your mattress protector?
P2B recommends if you can not to remove it from your little ones cot. Double sheeting is the perfect and simple solution… breathable and safe.
Parents are always concerned with their little ones cot safety; comforters, overheating and mattresses but sometimes forget about the plastic backed mattress protector on the cot. Plastic is not only non breathable but hot too.
You may or may not agree with me on this recommendation, and that’s OK. You should always do what works for you and your family.
* SIDS AND KIDS: Use a Firm and Flat Sleep Surface, Such as a Mattress in a Safety-Approved Crib*, Covered by a Fitted Sheet With No Other Bedding or Soft Items in the Sleep Area. Never place baby to sleep on soft surfaces, such as on a couch, sofa, waterbed, pillow, quilt, sheepskin, or blanket. These surfaces can be very dangerous for babies. Do not use a car seat, stroller, swing, infant carrier, infant sling or similar products as baby’s regular sleep area. Following these recommendations reduces the risk of SIDS and death or injury from suffocation, entrapment, and strangulation.
